SEWAA (Society for Environment, Wildlife Action and Awareness) was founded as a non-profit making, non-political, secular, environment conscious voluntary organisation in response to particular problems relating to the 5 E’s (Environment, Education, Energy, Employment and Empowerment). SEWAA’s current activities focus is in the region of Central Himalayas region (Uttarakhand).

Mountains have always played an important role in the history of humankind, they have also been sources of valuable resources like fresh drinking water, forest cover and their products, valuable minerals, biological diversity, recreational/adventure sports and most important as a spiritual destination.     

But, despite of all these rich natural and human resources, the local community remains deprived of their basic needs and is left behind in the developmental race even after the formation of separate hill state in November 2000.
